• Bowl shape. Elongated or round — the seat has to match. Measure from the seat bolts to the front edge of the bowl: roughly 18½" is elongated, roughly 16½" is round.
• A grounded outlet. These are electric and need a receptacle within reach behind the toilet, GFCI-protected in most Canadian bathrooms. This is the single most common reason an order stalls.
• Clearance behind the toilet. The seat's control box sits at the back; a very tight alcove or a low window sill can interfere.
