• Opening size. Most kitchen sinks use a 3½" drain opening. Confirm yours before ordering — bar and prep sinks are often smaller.
• Finish. The strainer is visible every time the sink is empty. Match it to the faucet, not to the sink.
• Disposal or not. A garbage disposal uses its own mounting flange rather than a standard strainer. If a disposal is going in, the strainer you need is different.

A basket strainer seals to hold water in the bowl and lifts out to drain. A grid or non-closing strainer catches debris but does not seal, which suits a prep bowl you never fill. A disposal flange is dictated by the disposal unit itself.
