Pull-down faucets — the largest part of our range — put the sprayer in the spout head on a retractable hose, pulling straight down into the bowl. They suit deep single-bowl sinks and are the default choice for most new kitchens.

Pull-out faucets use a lower spout and draw the sprayer toward you rather than down. They work better under a low window or a wall cabinet, and in shallower sinks where a tall arc would splash.

Touchless faucets add a sensor so the water starts with a wave — genuinely useful when your hands are covered in raw chicken or bread dough. They need power, either batteries under the sink or a transformer, so check access before you commit.

• Count your holes. Most modern faucets are single-hole. If your sink or counter is drilled for three, you will want a deck plate — many faucets include one, others sell it separately.
• Measure your clearance. Tall gooseneck spouts look striking but can hit a window sill or upper cabinet. Measure from the counter to the obstruction before falling in love with a silhouette.
• Match the finish, not the name. Brushed nickel from one brand rarely matches another's. Where you are pairing a faucet with a soap dispenser or pot filler, stay within one brand.
• Check the reach. A spout that does not clear the centre of the bowl will spray the sink wall every time.

What is the difference between a pull-down and a pull-out kitchen faucet?
A pull-down faucet has a tall arched spout and the sprayer pulls straight down into the sink. A pull-out has a lower spout and the sprayer pulls horizontally toward you. Pull-downs suit deep sinks and open kitchens; pull-outs suit low clearance under a window or cabinet.

Do touchless kitchen faucets need to be plugged in?
They need a power source, but rarely an outlet. Most run on batteries housed in a box under the sink, typically lasting a year or more; some offer an optional AC transformer. Check there is room in your cabinet for the control box before ordering.

How many holes does my kitchen faucet need?
Count the holes drilled in your sink or countertop. Most current faucets are single-hole. If you have three holes and want a single-hole faucet, use a deck plate to cover the outer two — some faucets include one, others sell it as an accessory.
