A standalone bidet needs floor space beside the toilet, hot and cold supplies, and a waste line — so in practice it belongs in a bathroom being built or fully renovated. What you get is a proper fixture with a mixer tap, and no electricity anywhere near it.

A bidet seat replaces your existing toilet seat, takes no extra floor space, and adds warm water, a heated seat and usually a dryer. It needs a grounded outlet within reach of the toilet. • Matching the toilet. Bidets are designed as part of a ceramic series. Pairing one with a toilet from a different range rarely looks deliberate.

Do I need a standalone bidet or a bidet seat?
A seat, in almost every Canadian bathroom that already exists. A standalone bidet needs its own floor space, supplies and drain, so it suits a full renovation or new build.

Does a standalone bidet need electricity?
No. It is a ceramic fixture with a tap. Electric bidet seats are the ones that need a grounded outlet.

Does it come with a faucet?
Usually not. The mixer is bought separately — see bidet faucets — and should match your other fittings.
