Steam Showers

A steam shower is the one bathroom upgrade that changes how the room is used rather than how it looks. It is also the one that has to be planned with an electrician and a plumber before the tile goes on. Eunoia carries 92 steam components from Delta — generators, controls, steam heads, heating elements, auto drains, generator pans, extension cables and service parts.

What you actually need

A working steam shower is four things, and they are usually bought separately:

  • A generator — the boiler. It does not live in the shower; it sits in a vanity, a closet, a basement or an attic space within the manufacturer's cable run, and needs its own electrical circuit and a water supply.
  • A steam head — the outlet inside the enclosure, mounted low and away from where anyone sits or stands, because steam leaves it hot.
  • A control — the interface for temperature, session length and, on the higher models, lighting, sound and aromatherapy.
  • A drain — an auto drain flushes the tank after each session so scale does not build up inside it. On hard water this is the difference between a generator that lasts and one that does not.

Steam kits bundle generator, control and head together and are the simplest way to buy a first system. Individual components are here for repairs, upgrades and specification work.

Sizing the generator

This is the decision that determines whether the shower works. Generators are sized to the cubic volume of the enclosure — length × width × height — and then adjusted upward for the surfaces in it. Ceramic tile is the baseline; natural stone, glass block, marble and very high ceilings all absorb far more heat and push you to a larger unit.

An undersized generator never reaches temperature and runs constantly. Work the sizing out from the manufacturer's chart against your actual finished dimensions and materials, not from a rough guess — and do it before the enclosure is built, because the electrical circuit has to be sized to the generator.

The enclosure matters as much as the equipment

A steam shower has to be fully vapour-sealed, floor to ceiling, with a proper door and a sloped ceiling so condensation runs off rather than dripping. A standard shower enclosure will not hold steam. If you are converting an existing shower rather than building new, that work usually costs more than the generator.

Buying from Eunoia

We are an authorized Delta dealer, so generators arrive with the full manufacturer warranty and heating elements and control boards stay available years later — which matters on a piece of equipment that will be behind a wall. Over 3,000 of our products ship free anywhere in Canada; look for the free-shipping badge on the product page. Everything ships free within Ontario, and any order over $3,000 ships free Canada-wide. Send us your enclosure dimensions and surface materials and we will check the generator size with you before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What size steam generator do I need?
It is calculated from the enclosure's cubic volume, then increased for heat-absorbing surfaces — natural stone, marble, glass block — and for high ceilings. Send us your finished dimensions and materials and we will work it out with you. An undersized unit will never reach temperature.

Where does the steam generator go?
Not in the shower. It is installed remotely — a vanity cabinet, closet, basement or attic — within the cable and pipe run the manufacturer specifies, with its own electrical circuit and water supply.

Can I convert my existing shower into a steam shower?
Sometimes, but the enclosure has to be fully vapour-sealed floor to ceiling with a proper door and ideally a sloped ceiling. A standard shower will not hold steam. Budget for the enclosure work as well as the equipment.

Do I need an auto drain?
Strongly recommended, especially on hard water. It flushes the tank after each session so mineral scale does not accumulate inside the generator, which is the most common cause of premature failure.
