Two-piece is the practical choice for most bathrooms: lower cost than one-piece, lighter to carry up a flight of stairs, and the tank and bowl can be replaced independently if one is damaged. The trade-off is the seam between tank and bowl, which needs occasional cleaning.

Measure your rough-in before ordering — the distance from the finished wall to the centre of the closet bolts. Twelve inches is standard in Canada, and 10" models are available for older homes.
