MAAX was founded in the Beauce region of Quebec in 1969 by Placide Poulin, originally making snowmobile cabs and moulded swimming pools. It moved into bathware in 1973 when the snowmobile market fell away, and is now one of the largest bathware manufacturers in North America.

Two things to settle before ordering. For an alcove tub, the drain hand — standing in front of the tub, is the drain on your left or your right? Left- and right-hand are different products, though several MAAX models are reversible and the listing says so. For a freestanding tub, the drain has to come up through the floor in exactly the right spot, and the filler is usually floor- or wall-mounted rather than deck-mounted — choose the tub and the filler together, before the subfloor closes.
