About this collection
Toilets with a 10-Inch Rough-In
If you measured 10 inches, this is your page. Standard North American rough-in is 12", and a 12" toilet installed on a 10" drain will not sit against the wall — it will stand proud with a gap behind it, or not fit at all. Eunoia stocks 20 toilets built for a 10" rough-in, almost all TOTO, in two-piece, one-piece and WASHLET+ versions.
Measure it properly first
Measure from the finished wall — the tile or the drywall, not the baseboard — to the centre of the bolts holding your current toilet to the floor. If there are two bolts on each side, use the rear pair.
Roughly 10 inches means a 10" rough-in. Roughly 12 means standard. Roughly 14 exists too, and is its own category.
If your measurement lands between sizes, measure again from the drywall rather than the baseboard — that is the usual cause. Send us the number and a photo if you want us to confirm before you order.
Why 10-inch exists
It is common in older Canadian and American housing stock, and in bathrooms where the drain was set close to a wall or a joist limited where the pipe could run. Nothing is wrong with it — it simply narrows your choice, which is why this page exists.
Your options
Most of the range here is two-piece, with several one-piece models and a number of TOTO units with integrated WASHLET bidet functions. You do not have to compromise on features to fit a 10" rough-in, but the selection is narrower than at 12", so decide on rough-in before you fall for a specific model.
The alternative to check: some 12" toilets can be fitted to a 10" rough-in using an offset flange. It works, but it restricts the waste passage and can affect flushing. A toilet actually designed for 10" is the better answer where one exists — and here, one does.
Also confirm
- Bowl shape — elongated for comfort, round to save four to five centimetres in a tight room.
- Height — comfort or universal height sits at roughly chair height, easier on knees.
- An outlet, if you are choosing a model with bidet functions.

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my toilet rough-in?
From the finished wall to the centre of the bolts at the base of your existing toilet. Use the rear bolts if there are two pairs, and measure to the drywall or tile rather than the baseboard.
Can I install a 12-inch toilet on a 10-inch rough-in?
Only with an offset flange, and it is a compromise — the waste passage is restricted, which can affect flushing. A toilet designed for 10" is the better solution.
Are 10-inch toilets more expensive?
Not inherently. The selection is smaller, so there are fewer budget options, but pricing is broadly comparable to equivalent 12" models.
What if I measure 14 inches?
14" rough-ins exist and need their own toilets. Send us the measurement and we will tell you what fits.
