One-Piece Toilets

A one-piece toilet is moulded as a single unit — tank and bowl fused, no seam, no gasket between them. That gives you two real advantages: there is no join to leak, and there is no crevice behind the bowl that never quite comes clean. It also sits lower and reads as a single sculpted form rather than two stacked parts. Eunoia carries 67, led by TOTO with Duravit and Kohler alongside.

One-piece or two-piece?

Choose one-piece for easier cleaning, no tank-to-bowl leak point, and a lower, more contemporary profile. It is the better-looking and lower-maintenance option, and in a small bathroom the reduced visual bulk matters.

Choose two-piece if budget is tight, if the bathroom is upstairs or awkward to reach — a one-piece is heavy and carried as one lump — or if you want the option to replace only the tank or only the bowl later.

One caution: because a one-piece is a single casting, damage to either half means replacing the whole fixture.

Measure the rough-in before anything else

Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the bolts holding your current toilet to the floor. Twelve inches is standard. Ten and fourteen exist in older houses, and a 12" toilet will not fit either — see Toilets with 10-Inch Rough-In. This is the most common and least recoverable ordering mistake in the category.

Then: shape, height and glaze
  • Elongated bowls are more comfortable and now standard. Round projects four to five centimetres less — the difference in a powder room where a door swings close.
  • Comfort or universal height sits at roughly chair height, easier for anyone with knee or mobility issues. Standard height suits a family bathroom used by children.
  • Glaze quality is what determines how often you scrub. A fully glazed trapway and a high-quality surface treatment mean waste and minerals have far less to grip.

Frequently asked questions

Are one-piece toilets better than two-piece?
Easier to clean and with no tank-to-bowl leak point, so lower maintenance and better looking. Two-piece is cheaper, lighter to carry, and lets you replace half the fixture later. Neither flushes better by virtue of the format.

Are one-piece toilets harder to install?
Not harder, but heavier — the whole unit is lifted as one piece. Getting one up a staircase usually takes two people.

What rough-in size do I need?
Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the bolts at the base of your existing toilet. 12" is standard; 10" and 14" require a toilet made for that dimension.

Can I add a bidet seat to a one-piece toilet?
Usually yes, if the bowl shape matches and there is a grounded outlet nearby. Some one-piece designs have contoured tops that limit seat options — send us the model and we will check.
