TOTO G5A vs G5A Lite: What's Actually Different?
TOTO introduced the WASHLET+ G5A Lite in 2026, positioned below the G5A. The name suggests a cut-down version, and most comparisons treat it that way.
Read the two spec sheets side by side and that is not what they say. This guide sets out what genuinely differs between the two, what is identical, and which one suits your bathroom.

1. The Toilet Underneath Is the Same
This is the part most comparisons leave out, and it changes the decision.
TOTO's specifications list the bowl for the G5A (MS7631CEMFG) and for the G5A Lite (MS7421CEMFG) as the same component: CT7631CEMFG.
What differs is the top unit — the washlet that mounts onto that bowl. The G5A uses SN7631M. The Lite uses SN7421M.
You can confirm it on our own shelves, because we stock both halves as separate parts.

Summary: You are not choosing between two toilets. You are choosing between two seats fitted to the same toilet.
2. Flushing and Water Use
Both use TORNADO FLUSH, TOTO's system that swirls water around the bowl rather than pushing it down one side, and both are rated at 1.2 GPF / 1.0 GPF (4.5 / 3.8 LPF) as a dual flush.
Both bowls carry CEFIONTECT, the ion-barrier glaze that makes the ceramic harder for waste to cling to, which is what lets a lower-volume flush still clear properly.
Because the bowl is the same part number, flushing performance between the two models is not merely comparable. It is the same.
Summary: No difference.
3. Washing, Drying and Comfort
This is where a model called "Lite" would be expected to give something up. It does not.
From TOTO's published specifications, both models are rated at:
- Rear spray 0.07–0.11 gal/min, front spray 0.08–0.11 gal/min
- Spray temperature 95–104°F (35–40°C)
- Heated seat 82–97°F (28–36°C)
- Warm air dryer 95–140°F (35–60°C)
- Remote control memory for four users
Both heat water instantaneously rather than holding it in a reservoir, so warm water does not run out partway through. Both include EWATER+, PREMIST, the automatic deodorizer, auto open and close, auto flush with a manual backup for power outages, and CLEAN RESIN on the seat and wand.
Summary: No difference.
4. What the G5A Actually Adds
Two things, and both are named on TOTO's own specification sheets.
The first is a night light that illuminates the inside of the bowl. The G5A sheet lists it. The G5A Lite sheet does not.
The second is decorative silver trim. The two sheets open with the same sentence describing the toilet, except that the G5A's version ends with the words "with decorative silver trim" and the Lite's version stops short. It is a brushed metallic strip across the front of the washlet unit, carrying the touch controls. On the Lite that surface is plain white.
You only see the trim with the lid raised, so it reads as a detail rather than a statement. Worth seeing in person if it matters to you.

Summary: A light in the bowl, and a silver trim strip. Both are cosmetic.
5. Installation
Identical between the two, which matters when you are planning a renovation:
- 12" rough-in and a 2" (51 mm) trap
- Seat height 17⁵⁄₁₆" (440 mm) — Universal Height
- Minimum flowing water pressure 7.25 PSI
- A dedicated 120V, 15-amp GFCI outlet, with both units drawing 1276W
- ADA compliant, and the lid rises to 41½" (1054 mm) — check anything mounted above
The outlet is the part people forget. A smart toilet needs a grounded, protected receptacle behind it, within reach of a 3.9 ft (1.2 m) cord — and that is far cheaper to run before the wall is closed than after.
Summary: Same requirements. Plan the outlet early either way.

Which Should You Choose?
There is no better model here. There is a model with a night light and a silver trim strip, and a model without them.
- Choose the G5A Lite if the specification is what you are buying. Same toilet, same wash, same warranty.
- Choose the G5A if you want the bowl night light — a main bathroom used at night, or a household where someone gets up in the dark — or if the silver trim suits the room.
- Either suits an accessible bathroom. Both are Universal Height and ADA compliant.
If you buy the Lite and later decide you want the night light, the top units are sold separately and both mount to the same CT7631CEMFG bowl. Check with us before ordering, as TOTO does not publish this as a supported upgrade path.
