Smart Toilets in Canada

A smart toilet builds the bidet into the fixture itself — warm-water cleansing, a heated seat, a warm-air dryer, automatic flush and usually a night light, in one seamless form with no separate seat to clean around. Integrated unit or bidet seat?

This is the real decision, and it is mostly about budget and how permanent the change is.

An integrated smart toilet is one piece. Nothing to retrofit, no join between seat and bowl, and the cleanest possible look. It is also a full toilet replacement, so it means a plumber and a considered purchase.

A bidet seat gives you most of the same functions on the toilet you already own, for a fraction of the cost. It fits most standard bowls, you can install it yourself in under an hour, and it is the sensible way to find out whether you actually want this before committing.

If you are already replacing the toilet, integrated is worth it. If the toilet is fine, start with a seat.

What to check before ordering
  • Rough-in. Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the bolts at the base of your current toilet. 12" is standard; 10" and 14" need a toilet built for them. This is not fixable after delivery.
  • A grounded outlet. Every unit on this page is electric. It needs a properly grounded receptacle within reach behind the toilet — and in most Canadian bathrooms, that means a GFCI. If there is no outlet there now, add an electrician to the budget.
  • Water supply. Some models need a dedicated connection to the unit rather than to a tank. Check the spec before your plumber arrives.
  • Bowl shape, if you are buying a seat rather than a whole toilet — elongated or round.

Do smart toilets need electricity?
Yes. Every model here needs a grounded outlet within reach behind the toilet, typically GFCI-protected. If there is no receptacle there, budget for an electrician.

Should I buy a smart toilet or a bidet seat?
If you are replacing the toilet anyway, an integrated unit gives a cleaner result. If your toilet is fine, a bidet seat delivers most of the same functions for far less and installs in under an hour.

What happens in a power cut?
The toilet still flushes. The electronic functions — warm water, heated seat, dryer — are unavailable until power returns. Most models include a manual flush method; check the specification.
