Riobel in Canada

Riobel is the contemporary Canadian brand within the House of Rohl group, and the most accessible way into that group's engineering. It is also the most shower-heavy brand we carry after Baril — 141 of the 683 Riobel products here are shower kits and trims.

The brand originated in Quebec, and its fixtures are designed and engineered in Canada. Riobel's own description is European panache with North American flair — geometric angles and rounded arcs, contemporary rather than period. The rough-in valves are manufactured in Canada.

What makes Riobel genuinely easy to specify is that the valve system is standardised across the whole range, and the model number tells you which valve a trim needs. Learn that and you can order almost anything in the catalogue without guessing.

Shower Valves & Rough-Ins — every Riobel rough-in and how to pick one. Start here if you are building a shower.

  • Paradox (39) — the largest range. Minimalist, streamlined to a T, with round or square plates and matching accessories.
  • GS (33) — organic and understated, and the most affordable way into Riobel's valve system thanks to plastic-plate options.
  • Riu (32) — the most configurable: plain or knurled handles, round or square spouts, five finishes.
  • Authentica (31) — the deepest kitchen line. Pull-down, bridge, touchless, pre-rinse, bar and pot filler in one design.
  • Arca (30) — kitchen, bath and accessories, plus matching EMTEK cabinet hardware.
  • Equinox (30) — squared and architectural, with the widest valve range including 3/4".
  • Momenti (26) — five finishes, the most Riobel offers, plus the signature J-lever handle.
  • Parabola (24) — a symmetrical curve designed to catch light.
  • Zendo (24) — a waterfall spout, and the fullest matching accessory set in the range.
  • Manifesto (22) — new for 2026. Early 20th-century architecture, with a signature groove on every piece.
  • Kubik (23) — squared and minimal, no longer in the current range. What is here is what is left.

Reflet, Fresk, Nibi, Ode, Edge, Azure, Lateral and the rest are listed further down under The collections.

The valve system — learn this first

Riobel separates the trim (the visible handles, spout and head) from the rough-in valve (the body inside the wall). Most of the catalogue is sold both ways: 123 items here are trim-only, 158 come complete with the rough-in.

The valve you need depends on how many outlets you want to run:

  • R51 — 1/2" pressure-balance (Type P). One function. A single shower head, nothing else. Maximum 22 L/min (5.8 US gpm at 60 psi).
  • R23 — 1/2" coaxial thermostatic/pressure-balance, two outlets, up to three functions across four handle positions. The workhorse: a head plus a handheld. Maximum 24 L/min (6.3 gpm).
  • R45 — 1/2" coaxial thermostatic/pressure-balance, three outlets, up to five functions across six positions. For body sprays and larger systems. Maximum 24 L/min (6.3 gpm).
  • R46 — 3/4" coaxial thermostatic/pressure-balance, four outlets, six functions, with two independent temperature controls so two people can run different temperatures. Needs a 3/4" supply. Maximum 38 L/min (10 gpm).
  • 1005N — 3/4" thermostatic, temperature control only. A separate volume control must be ordered with it. This valve is shared across House of Rohl, so you will find it filed under ROHL rather than Riobel.

Tub fillers use their own roughs — RHFS-ST and RHBX for floor-mounted, RHTB for deck-mounted, RH21 for wall-mounted — and wall-mount 360° lavatory faucets use RH360. All of them sit in Riobel Shower Valves & Rough-Ins.

Count your outlets before you order. The valve sits behind the tile and cannot be changed later without opening the wall.

Rough in now, choose the finish later

Because the rough-in and the trim are sold separately, your plumber can set the valve in the wall while you are still deciding on a collection and a finish. Nothing visible goes in until the end, so the finish is not sitting in a construction zone getting scratched.

Every Riobel rough also ships with a test cap. The plumber can pressure-test and flush the lines without removing the cartridge or letting debris get into it — which is the usual cause of a brand-new valve running weak on one side.

If the valve sits too deep in the wall

Thick tile, a mortar bed or a furred-out wall can leave the rough-in set further back than the trim can reach. This does not mean replacing the valve. House of Rohl makes extension kits for the R23, R45 and R51, each in a 3/4" and a 1 1/4" depth:

These are House of Rohl parts shared across the group, so they are filed under ROHL. If your plumber measures short after tiling, this is usually the fix.

Read the model number and the valve tells you itself

This is the single most useful thing to know about Riobel. Shower trim model numbers follow the pattern T + collection + valve number + options, and the number in the middle is the rough-in valve it requires:

  • A trim numbered TXX51XX takes an R51.
  • A trim numbered TXX23XX or TXX44XX takes an R23.
  • A trim numbered TXX45XX or TXX47XX takes an R45.
  • A trim numbered TXX46XX takes an R46.
  • A trim numbered TXX13 takes a 1005N.

So TPB2351BK is a Parabola trim on an R23 in black. Once you see the pattern, you can pair trim to valve from the product title alone. Kubik is the one exception — its codes do not follow this convention.

Faucet model numbers read left to right as collection → spout type → faucet category → handle choice → finish. The handle and spout codes: L metal lever, + cross, KN knurled, J J-lever (Momenti), TH top handle, SH side handle, SQ square spout, RD round spout, TQ square plate, TM round plate.

Type P, Type T or Type T/P

Riobel labels its shower systems by valve type, and you will see this in the product name.

Type P is pressure-balance. It holds temperature steady even if water pressure drops by up to 50% elsewhere in the house, and it works on a well system. Enough for a single shower head.

Type T is thermostatic. It uses a paraffin-stem cartridge that reacts to temperature itself, allows temperature presets, and is the type recommended for shower systems with body jets, a rain head and a handheld running together.

Type T/P is Riobel's patented coaxial valve and does both in one body — pressure compensation and true thermostatic control, with the diverter built in so no separate stop valve or diverter is needed. That is why Riobel shower walls look cleaner than most: fewer holes in the tile.

All three are safe, carry the limited lifetime warranty, suit both new construction and homes built before 2000, and none of them require a direct connection back to the water heater.

Finishes

Riobel's 2026 finish codes, which appear at the end of the model number:

  • C Chrome · PN Polished Nickel · BN Brushed Nickel · SS Stainless Steel
  • BK Black · BG Brushed Gold · US4 Satin Brass — new for 2026 · WH White (quartz sinks)

Not every collection is offered in every finish, and finish availability is the most common reason a chosen model has to change. Momenti has the widest choice at five. Chrome, black and the PVD finishes carry the limited lifetime warranty.

The collections

Riobel's 2026 range, with what we stock of each.

Bathroom: Paradox (39), GS (33), Riu (32), Authentica (31), Arca (30), Equinox (30), Momenti (26), Parabola (24), Zendo (24), Manifesto (22), Reflet (21), Fresk (20), Nibi (20), Ode (20), Edge (18).

Kitchen: Authentica, Arca, Azure (9), Lateral (8), Trattoria (4), Ludik, Mythic, Joli.

Accessories — towel bars, rings, hooks and shelves designed to match — are offered for Arca, Authentica, Manifesto, Momenti, Parabola, Paradox, Reflet, Zendo, plus the Hudson and Star lines. Fonsa is Riobel's quartz sink line.

We also still carry Kubik (23), Venty (14) and Cayo, which are not in the 2026 book — if you want one of those, buy while it is here.

Pieces within one collection are designed to sit together. Mixing collections in one sightline is the thing to avoid.

Where Riobel is strongest here
How Riobel fits with its sister brands

House of Rohl is a group of separate manufacturers that share a warranty and parts network but not a factory or a design language. We carry four of them: ROHL is the broadest, spanning traditional through contemporary; Perrin & Rowe is English brassware in the period idiom; Shaws is fireclay farmhouse sinks; and Riobel is the contemporary one, Canadian, and the most accessible on price. The group also includes Victoria + Albert freestanding tubs and the EMTEK and Schaub hardware brands.

Because the group shares an engineering platform, some Riobel valve parts — the 1005N thermostatic rough and the R-valve extension kits — are House of Rohl components filed under ROHL. They fit Riobel trims normally.

One caution: finishes are formulated per brand. Polished nickel from Riobel is not polished nickel from Perrin & Rowe, and the difference shows when two pieces share a sightline. Specify a single brand for anything that will be seen together.

Warranty — one condition to know about

Riobel's limited lifetime warranty covers chrome, black and PVD finishes, quartz sinks and all working parts, from the original purchase date. Other finishes and plastic components are covered for one year. Electrical and electronic parts carry a five-year limited warranty.

The warranty is honoured only if the installation is performed by a certified master plumber. This is Riobel's condition, not ours, and it is the detail that catches people out on a self-installed fixture. Keep your invoice as well — warranty claims require proof of purchase from the original buyer, and the coverage is not transferable.

Products installed in a commercial setting are covered for one year rather than for life. If you are specifying for a commercial project, plan on that.

Frequently asked questions

Which Riobel rough-in valve do I need?
Read the trim's model number. A trim numbered TXX51XX takes an R51, TXX23XX or TXX44XX takes an R23, TXX45XX or TXX47XX takes an R45, and TXX46XX takes an R46. By outlet count: one shower head is R51, a head plus a handheld is R23, body sprays or a larger system is R45, and a high-flow shower with several outlets at once is R46 in 3/4".

What is the difference between Type P and Type T?
Type P is pressure-balance — it holds temperature steady when pressure drops by up to 50% and works on a well, but it runs one outlet. Type T is thermostatic — it holds a set temperature and is the type recommended for body jets and multi-outlet systems. Type T/P is Riobel's patented coaxial valve and does both, with the diverter built in.

My rough-in is too deep for the trim after tiling. Do I need a new valve?
No. House of Rohl makes extension kits for the R23, R45 and R51 in 3/4" and 1 1/4" depths. They are filed under ROHL because the part is shared across the group, but they fit Riobel trims normally.

Why is the 1005N valve listed under ROHL and not Riobel?
Because it is a shared House of Rohl component rather than a Riobel-branded one. It works with Riobel TXX13 trims exactly as the catalogue describes. The same applies to the R-valve extension kits.

Do Riobel trims include the valve?
Not always. Items marked trim only are the visible parts alone; items marked with rough-in include the valve body. The product page states which. Buying them separately is normal — it lets the plumber rough in the wall before you have settled on a finish.

Where is Riobel made?
Riobel originated in Quebec and its fixtures are designed and engineered in Canada. The rough-in valves are manufactured in Canada. The brand sits within House of Rohl, which handles warranty and parts support across North America.

Does the warranty require a licensed plumber?
Yes. Riobel honours the warranty only where installation was performed by a certified master plumber. Lifetime coverage applies to chrome, black and PVD finishes, quartz sinks and working parts; electronics are five years; commercial installations are one year.

Can I mix Riobel with ROHL or Perrin & Rowe?
Across a house, yes. Within one sightline, no — finishes are formulated per brand and two pieces that share a room should share a brand.

Can I add an outlet to my shower later?
Not without changing the rough-in valve, which means opening the wall. Decide the number of functions before the plumbing is roughed in.
