The one thing to get right is overflow. A basin with an overflow hole under the rim needs a drain with matching overflow ports, or the overflow has nowhere to drain to. A vessel or fireclay basin without one needs a solid-body, non-overflow drain — fit the wrong one and water weeps out of the ports.
