Count them, and measure the spread between the outer two. That single measurement decides which of these five you can fit:

• Single hole — spout and handle in one body, through one 1⅜" hole. The cleanest look and the easiest install. Most modern sinks are drilled for this.
• Widespread — three separate pieces, spout and two handles, at 8" or wider. The traditional choice for a larger vanity, and the most forgiving of an unusual sink layout.
• Centerset — three holes at 4" centres on a single base plate. Common in older and builder-grade sinks.
• Wall-mount — comes out of the wall, leaving the counter completely clear. The largest group in our range, and the one that must be planned before the wall closes: both the height and the spout projection are fixed at rough-in.
• Vessel — taller, sized to clear the rim of an above-counter basin. A standard faucet on a vessel sink will splash or not reach at all.

If you have three holes and want the single-hole look, most manufacturers offer a deck plate to cover the outer two. Going the other way is usually not possible — a one-hole sink cannot safely be drilled for three, particularly in porcelain or stone.

Between the least and the most expensive faucet on this page, four things change. Body material — solid brass resists corrosion and holds threads for decades; zinc alloy does not age as well. Cartridge — a good ceramic disc is the difference between a faucet that still feels crisp in ten years and one that drips in two, and it is the part you will eventually replace, which is the practical argument for buying from an authorized dealer. Finish process — PVD bonds at a molecular level and resists scratching; standard plating does not, and it shows most on brushed gold, matte black and bronze. Aerator — decides whether the stream is a soft column or a spitting spray, and it is the part you interact with every day.

Finish names do not cross brands. One manufacturer's brushed nickel is not another's, and two "matte black" faucets can read as slightly different blacks in the same room. Where a faucet, a shower trim and a towel bar will be seen together, specify them from one brand.

How do I know which bathroom faucet fits my sink?
Count the holes and measure the distance between the outer two. One hole means single hole; three holes at 4" is centerset; 8" or wider is widespread. A vessel sink needs a taller vessel faucet.

Can I put a single hole faucet on a three-hole sink?
Yes, with a deck plate covering the outer two holes. Many faucets include one; others sell it separately in matching finishes.

What is the difference between widespread and centerset?
Centerset is one piece spanning three holes at 4" centres. Widespread is three separate pieces at 8" or more, connected under the counter, which allows a wider and more traditional layout.

Do wall-mount faucets work in an existing bathroom?
Only if there is already plumbing in the wall at the right height and projection. Otherwise the wall has to be opened, so it is a renovation decision rather than a swap.
